Armidale, Coffs Harbour,
Port Macquarie, Laurieton and Forster areas
participated in a very sucessful program that
introduced students in years 10/11, who were considering a career in this
exciting fast growing industry.
People to People
This is a home hosting
opportunity for overseas students and their teachers on an organised tour of Australia to experience a weekend
in an Australian home. The traveling students are matched with students from
local schools as closely as possible. The Rotary Club coordinates the
arrangements and is given funds by the tour organisers.
These fund are then distributed to the schools

The Festival, set for is for
the enjoyment of residents and visitors of any age who like the era of the
Swinging Sixties and Seventies with its distinctive styles of fashion, music,
entertainment and vehicles such as Harley-Davidsons, open sports cars and
panel vans for the drive-in movies or carrying the long board to the beach.
It is held in March/April each year
Steve Wines, of Great Lakes Rotary that is sponsoring the Festival, said,
“The large number and variety of local sporting and recreational clubs that
are staging events and competitions means that there will be activities going
on during each day to suit everyone".
“Then on the three evenings of the weekend led by Club Forster, there will be
music, singing and dancing performances of the Baby Boomers’ era at all the
local licensed clubs". In 2007 these included the Donnie Sutherland’s
‘Sounds of Jukebox’ extravaganza, the Beatels and
the Beatnix sound-a-like groups and ‘Forever Everly’ a tribute to the Everly
Brothers.
Bowelscan
Rotary Clubs across Australia conduct an annual sale
of testing kits (in March) to determine if a person has a likelyhood
of having bowel cancer. The testing kits are purchased from Rotary Club
stands for a nominal charge and the completed tests are returned to local
participating pharmacies. The kits are forwarded to a pathology lab and analysed. The purchaser is informed by letter of the
result and if positive is referred to their doctor for treatment. A positive
result does not always prove to be a result of cancer and a negative test is
not a guarantee that there is not a cancer but each year a number of poeple are sucessfully
diagnosed and treated. The test kits are recommended but not limited to
people over 50 years of age. Participating pharmacies and pathology
laboratories all donate or provide their services at cost to this not for
profit project.
